Presentation

Created in 2004, the Professional Masters in Public Administration (MPA) course, linked to the Graduate Program in Administration (PPGA) of the University of Brasília (UnB), has as its general objective the training of professionals capable of acting in a critical and reflective manner in research and teaching in public administration and in the management of public organizations.

The specific objectives are: a) develop the critical thinking of public administration professionals; b) provide training that involves research and teaching in public administration; c) develop in students the ability to intervene in their organizations.

Concentration area and lines of research: The MPA's area of concentration is Public Administration and Public Policy, with two lines of research: (1) Public Policy Management and (2) Management of Public Organizations. The first line was created in 2012, shortly after the Program took on its focus on Public Administration. The second line was created two years later, in 2014. The two lines of research are fully articulated with the Program's area of concentration, and encompass the most important current themes in the area of Public Administration and Public Policies.

Mission: Train public servants with excellence capable of facing the problems and challenges of Brazilian public administration. Provide quality education to our students, improve the training of teachers, offer an adequate environment for carrying out research applied to public administration problems, respect the commitments agreed with the contracting bodies and act in line with and articulate with the PPGA, University of Brasilia (UnB) and CAPES.

Vision: To be recognized as the best professional master's course in public administration in Brazil, with local, regional, national and international insertion.

Values: Professionalism, Innovation, Honesty, Dedication, Dialogue, Inclusion, Merit, Respect, Tolerance and Transparency. We constantly reinforce these values with our teachers, employees, students, graduates and partners in general.

Identity: Committed to contributing to the solution of managerial problems in Brazilian public administration, the MPA has been recognized as a course that trains masters (and, in the future, doctors) capable of identifying and diagnosing problems in their public organizations, as well as proposing and implementing interventions to solve identified problems. The MPA is recognized for encouraging an interventionist approach in research conducted by its students and faculty.

Social insertion: A striking trait in the identity of the MPA, which has great local insertion, being recognized as the professional master's degree in public administration of reference in Brasília and in the Midwest region. Furthermore, due to the fact that it has been offering classes for more than 15 years to federal public administration bodies, the MPA also has a relevant national insertion. MPA's partner organizations work in public policies at the national level, dealing with social problems that affect the lives of many people in different parts of the country. The MPA has, in addition, a solid national academic insertion, with participation in research associations and events in the area. The MPA is recognized as a flexible course in operational terms, focused on the specific demands of the contracting bodies, which allows some characteristics of the classes offered to be personalized, such as the profile of the graduate, optional subjects, format and location of classes, seminar and lecture contents, priority research topics for students. This flexibility is important so that the course can meet the strategic objectives of the contracting bodies, aligning different interests and expectations involved in hiring and offering classes.
