SUMMARY:

The problem of teacher’s authority has been discussed in several academic works over the last few years, so that we find that in many of them, is reported a crisis in this authority, but that does not start in the school sphere, but in the political sphere. Faced with this situation of lack of authority on the part of teachers, we question whether another element of the political sphere was inserted in the relations between teachers and students. Thus, we formulate the hypothesis that the scho ol, because it is inserted in the bourgeois democratic state, is also immersed in the ideologies and political practices of this type of society, in particular, authoritarianism. We defend, then, the thesis that a society, no longer politically structured by authority, marked by the authoritarianism of the bourgeois state, produced a school emptied of its authority and marked by such practices, evidenced by the act of adopting school grades. In this way, we aim, in this thesis, to obtain the perception of teachers and students about what teacher’s authority means, in order to understand whether in fact what is acknowledged of this concept is not being confused with authoritarian coercion devices, as well as to identify the reasons of such confusion. In order to achieve these objectives, we sought in the literature the understanding of authority, how the aforementioned crisis took place and how the construction of the contemporary school took place within the ideology and practices of the modern bourgeois democratic state. Finally, we intend to materially support our thesis with information obtained from semi-structured interviews with teachers, focus groups with students and documental analysis of Political-Pedagogical Projects of public schools in the Federal District
