For an anti-racist teacher education: knowledge, forms and contents for science education
Science education; counter-colonialism; anti-racist education; teaching education.
The science education plays an important role in the construction of our society. However, it is important to emphasize that this is a formative process that is not exempt from the legacy of racism and colonialism that make up our society. When we study science from a historical and critical perspective, we can see how it upheld the racist practices, thoughts, theories, and behaviors of which, in some ways, remains to this day. From this understanding, we will develop this research starting from the following question: “How is an anti-racist training developed in science teaching based on teacher education?”. The theoretical reference framework is constituted from the discussion of how science contributed to the perpetuation of racism in our society, having as a starting point the colonization process and its implications, reaching the teaching of science within elementary schools. From this, an anti-racist training process is proposed for teachers in the field of science education from a counter-colonial perspective with the purpose of transgressing not only our understanding of what science is and the role of black people in its development, but also - if possible - developing a broad understanding of the problem to help teachers in the construction of actions that contemplate the laws 10.639/03 and 11.645/08.
