SUMMARY:

Currently, there is a growing interest among researchers in the perspective of decoloniality, especially in the humanities. However, there are few works that address it in science education. With its foundations rooted in Modern Science, science education carries many of the exclusionary premises of colonialism and coloniality present in modernity. Thus, it reproduces various historical facts that have contributed to the exclusion and oppression of different subjects. In contrast, rural education promoted by the Landless Workers' Movement does not adhere to a universal educational approach. On the contrary, we understand that it operates from a perspective close to decoloniality, with its own education that is counter-hegemonic. Through a literature review, we have found existing connections between science education and rural education, especially after the creation of rural teacher education programs. Popular knowledge is present in the majority of these works, highlighting the importance of exploring the intersections between rural education and decoloniality. Given that the concept of decoloniality is still emerging, we understand that it is present in the epistemological and ontological construction of rural communities. In this work, using the Modernity/Coloniality framework as a theoretical and political basis, we aim to investigate the pedagogical practices of Science Education in primary school within a Rural School in an MST settlement located in the southernmost region of Bahia, analyzing them from a decolonial perspective and exploring possible intersections between decolonial Science Education and Rural Education. Through this, we hope to contribute to discussions about alternative ways of thinking about science education.
