Research Project: Impacts of the Increase in Distance Education on Graduate Salaries in Brazil
Impact assessment on education, Quality of Education, Access to Higher Education
Between 2018 and 2022, there was a significant increase in distance education (EAD) vacancies in Brazil, while in-person vacancies decreased. This study aims to investigate how the job market values EAD diplomas compared to in-person diplomas, focusing on calculating the wage premium associated with distance education. Using data from INEP, we intend to assess whether EAD graduates initially earn lower salaries than in-person graduates and how this difference evolves over time. We also want to examine whether EAD attracts a new profile of students, changing the composition of higher education students. The methodology includes multiple linear regression, with the log of the salary as the dependent variable and controls for ENEM scores, professional experience, and educational level. We expect to obtain descriptive statistics, cross tabulations, and graphs that provide a comprehensive view of the impacts of EAD..
