SUMMARY:

The necessity of a new development paradigm for the Global South is made evident by the persistence (and, in many cases, the deepening) of poverty, social inequality, and exclusion observed across various regions. It has been clearly demonstrated over the past few decades that economic growth alone is insufficient to overcome these challenges.

Concurrently, divergences are found within the post-Keynesian literature on growth regarding the mechanisms and processes involved in the sustained, long-term expansion of output. These differences in approach create an opportunity for the reconsideration of the understanding of the growth process in poor and middle-income countries, drawing upon theoretical insights surrounding these points of conflict.
In this context, the present work seeks to re-evaluate growth and distribution models of Kaleckian tradition aiming to apply their insights to the contemporary debate on economic development. To achieve this, modifications or extensions are proposed to established models within this tradition. These changes would allow for the incorporation of empirical regularities observed in contemporary developing economies, along with theoretical propositions raised in the recent debate.
