SUMMARY:

In 2018 Rio de Janeiro was the subject of a federal intervention implemented to face a severe public security crisis. Throughout 10 months, about R$ 1 billion were invested in the purchase of equipment and the realization of police raids in order to combat the violence all over the state. Considering the agregate nature of this intervention, we intent to estimate the treatment’s casual effect on the number of homicides via the synthetic control method, using data provided by Mortality Information System, PNAD-C and the Budget Execution Summary Report.
