Resumo em inglês: Crime and violence are present in everyday life, making them a constant object of study. This work sought to analyze the impact of participation in school activities (measured by the high school dropout rate) on crime in Brazilian states (measured by the homicide rate), in the period between 2008 and 2019. Taking into account the econometric problems present In most studies in this area, it was decided to use a dynamic panel, applying the method of Arellano and Bond (1991) for comparative purposes. To build the models, data from the Atlas of Violence, the School Census, Pnad Contínua, Datasus, the Brazilian Public Security Yearbook and IBGE were used. The results obtained indicate that the high school dropout rate was statistically significant and presented a positive sign, that is, increasingly higher values of this variable lead to higher values of the homicide rate. This effect intensifies among individuals aged between 15 and 29 years. Thus, public policies aimed at improving the quality of education and generating incentives for greater participation in school activities can be useful in the search for reducing violence.
