SUMMARY:

In this research, we seek to investigate and understand the challenges and difficulties in learning a new language, especially the oral modality (language comprehension and production) of adult beginner learners of the English language in a remote course. In response to the questions, we aim to demonstrate, in a confirmatory manner, which distinctive features (strategies, attitudes, and manifest affectivities) of communicative basis can be summoned to support the perception of difficulty in using the target language by these beginner learners. The use of orality in the target language by a sample number of participating learners was observed and noted for the analysis of the learning process of an L2 on an interactive and communicative basis, as well as how these learners reacted to the instruction received in order to produce the target language orally. The study of the actions and attitudes raised by observation in the learning process by this target audience is justified by the fact that some deeply rooted beliefs among learners make acquisition inefficient or even counterproductive when the teacher uses orality in the classroom. Therefore, they are treated here as a relevant factor in the learning process (which can also be acquisition under certain circumstances). According to Oxford (1990), the use of strategies is directly linked to oral fluency. Oxford (1990), says that the strategies that learners use in their learning process are individual and often conscious. They are discussed in this study within the framework of Communicative Competence (Hymes, 1970; SOUTO FRANCO & ALMEIDA FILHO, 2009) and teaching for communication (Widdowson, 1991), Dornyëi (2009), among others. This research was methodologically based on an intervention case study that also sought a justifiable way to deal with the following question: what conduct moderators and strategies can the FL teacher use to help their students in a smooth trajectory of acquiring orality? The research was developed using a qualitative approach to the analysis of recorded video lessons sessions, as well as open interviews with five participating students. The results suggest that in order to establish orality in the classroom, it is important to employ strategies, and not only do they contribute to language learning, but they also make the students' journey more accessible and enjoyable, allowing them to feel more open to taking risks in their productions in the target language, and thus creating and recreating them, instinctively or not, whenever there are difficulties in class, making this practice necessary.
