SUMMARY:

This research project aims to analyze the dynamics of interdependence in care chains related to domestic care services in the migratory context of Nicaragua - Costa Rica. Specifically, it focuses on the phenomenon of migration of Nicaraguan women integrating into the Costa Rican labor market through various subcategories of domestic care services. In this scenario, care chains commonly form, characterized by a hierarchical/stratified structure of network interconnections among individuals, families/homes, and geographical spaces. From these interconnections, dynamics of interdependence emerge, manifesting in the mutual need between the contracting families/homes and the labor-providing families/homes. It is suggested that the implications of these dynamics of interdependence are distinct among the involved groups, meaning that for the contracting families/homes, it may represent an opportunity for social ascension, while for the labor-providing families/homes, the impacts are directly linked to subsistence needs. Therefore, the objective of this project is to analyze, from a comparative perspective, the perceptions of these dynamics of interdependence, from the point of view of both the contracting families/homes and the labor-providing families/homes. The proposed methodological design is predominantly qualitative, with subsidiary support from quantitative data at specific moments. With this project, we seek to generate innovative and updated information, enabling a contrast between the impacts and perceptions from the viewpoint of the individuals involved in various situations within the care chains.
