SUMMARY:

The increase of climate change and the consequences it entails force countries to organize themselves to combat it. The knowledge that the acceleration of climate change has anthropogenic causes is established. The process is closely related to the increase in greenhouse gases (GHG) in the atmosphere. The production of these gases in urban areas is closely linked to urban transport and the morphology of city occupation. Green areas in cities provide ecosystem services (ES), that is, benefits that the population obtains from natural ecosystems. Directly, among the various ES provided in cities by green areas in the fight against climate change, we highlight the GHG absorption capacity, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2), acting as carbon sinks, removing the gas from the atmosphere and storing in plant physiology. This study aims to compare the performance, as a GHG sink capacity, of green areas present in the Sudoeste, Noroeste, Asa Norte and Asa Sul sectors, belonging to the Pilot Plan, in Brasília – Federal District, Brazil. To this end, we will use geoprocessing techniques through selection, treatment and analysis of multispectral sensors using the NDVI, ICO2 and CO2flux indices. The research also aims to understand how these data relate to other elements of urban sustainability researched in recent years. The intention is to support urban morphology decision-makers with data to combat climate change and move towards sustainable development in Brazilian cities.
