SUMMARY:

Facing the intensification of the socioecological crisis, in recent years an important new actor of organized civil society has shown its strength and claiming power globally. Youth have organized themselves and developed strategies to claim voice and decision-making power in the face of the environmental crisis and its consequences. The socioecological crisis feeds and is fed by the expansion of neo-extractivism in Latin American territories. Not passive to the destruction of their territories, the different repercussions of the crisis generate responses from civil society organizations, especially young people from family farming families and traditional peoples and populations, who seek to organize themselves in "bottom-up" arrangements. The research takes place in the Baixo Tapajós territory, in the Brazilian state of Pará, in the Amazon biome. In this territory, in the last twenty years, there has been an important expansion of mining, monoculture agriculture (soy), and industrial fishing, leading to social-environmental conflicts because of the encounter between different actors. This scenario has stimulated social movements to create spaces to elaborate collective actions to defend alternative life projects to the hegemonic model. Thus, faced with the attempt of decentralization of state power to the base and the privatization of natural resources and lands, more and more, civil society has been organizing itself, trying to demonstrate the relevance of arrangements based on a logic of common resources and local decision making. The aim of the project is to analyze the emergence and strategies of rural youth for the defense of family farming territories in Baixo Tapajós, as well as the motivations of young people in the struggle for the defense of their traditional territories.
