SUMMARY:

Climate change is significantly impacting the livelihood systems of human populations worldwide, particularly those reliant on natural resource extraction. Over recent decades, climate change has led to the geographical redistribution of species, resulting in the loss of biodiversity across various ecosystems. Additionally, the expansion of agribusiness and its associated practices has disrupted biodiversity distribution and jeopardized the preservation of national biomes, including the Pantanal. Ecological restoration projects have emerged as a viable solution for rehabilitating degraded landscapes and reinstating the structural and functional aspects of ecosystems. To determine priority areas for these projects in the Pantanal, researchers have employed ecological studies utilizing topo-climatic modeling. These analyses aim to identify optimal locations for implementing ecological restoration measures, maximizing their effectiveness. Equally important is the comprehension of traditional communities' and local inhabitants' perspectives in these prioritized areas. Such understanding allows for the development of adaptive measures that address the socio-environmental impacts induced by climate change in the Pantanal. Consequently, the generation of models to identify suitable locations for ecological restoration projects considers both environmental characteristics and the viewpoints of local communities. These collective efforts have a primary objective of mitigating the consequences of climate change in the Pantanal and contributing to the conservation of this vital biome. By ensuring the sustainability of natural resources and the well-being of the populations dependent on them, these actions safeguard the Pantanal's integrity and help preserve its rich biodiversity.
