SUMMARY:

This research project addresses the interrelationship among energy, climate, and international cooperation in the context of global energy transition. The objectives encompass the analysis of energy transition scenarios on global and national scales, the identification of risks and opportunities for an agile reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and the evaluation of implemented international cooperation initiatives. The employed methodology is detailed, based on literature review, interview with experts and the use of dynamic models (2050 Calculators) to simulate greenhouse gas mitigation in the energy sector of selected countries, in contrast with their targets established in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) of the Paris Agreement. The project underscores the importance of international cooperation as a fundamental element for the success of a well-executed energy transition. Additionally, it explores the challenges and barriers that may refrain collaborative efforts. The results are expected to contribute toward a more -deeply understanding of the topic and identify pathways for the development of more effective strategies for a sustainable energy transition.
