SUMMARY:

This research is part of the Chapada dos Veadeiros Mammal Conservation Program, started in 2018 and coordinated by Professors José Luiz de Andrade Franco and André Cunha, and the Project “The border of human occupation and the protection of biodiversity in the biome Cerrado: the jaguar (Panthera onca) corridor and territorial development with a conservationist basis in the APA of Pouso Alto – GO”, financed by FAP-DF. The study will cover the Pouso Alto Environmental Protection Area (APA), located in the state of Goiás. The region is the Cerrado, the second largest biome in Brazil in terms of extension and considered a biodiversity hotspot, a term coined by Norman Myers, in 1988, to designate areas with high biological richness and that have suffered extensive habitat destruction. As objectives, the research seeks to: i) Characterize the physical and social environment of the Pouso Alto APA; ii) Understand the socio-ecological environment related to biodiversity conservation in the Pouso Alto APA, especially with the conservation of medium and large mammals; iii) Understand how, in terms of richness and relative abundance, the community of medium and large mammals sampled at different points in the Pouso Alto APA is structured; iv) Understand how social actors involved with biodiversity conservation impact medium and large fauna in the study area.
