Critical Discourse Studies. Opinative texts. Journalism. Homelessness. Multimodality
This thesis objective is to investigate the the homeless representations in the opinative texts of Folha de S. Paulo, from 2011 to 2020, in critical and transdisciplinary perspective, anchored in Critical Discourse Studies. This study is based on the dialectical-relational approach of Norman Fairclough and the sociocognitive approach of Teun A. van Dijk and also seeks a dialogue with Latin American authors. We selected the following publications of Opinião subsections to analyse: Editorial, Tendencias/Debates and Painel do Leitor, considering texts and images. Study these spaces is very relevant because they represent the position of the newspaper, the specialists and the readers, being, therefore, a sample of how different actors with different views of the world build representations about this group. In addition to this documentary research, an individual interview with a representative of the newspaper will be made, in order to obtain information that helps in the interpretation of the specific problem of social practice. This research deals with the following corpora: multimodal opinion texts and interview transcription. All these data will be organized in the Qualitative Solution Reserch NVivo 11 software. I believe this study can contribute to a critical awareness of language, like a discursive interventions imply social transformation and, therefore, are tools to fight structural impoverishment.
