SUMMARY:
Based on the notion of metageneric competence (KOCH, 2021), this study intends to analyze the production of trades by employees of the University of Brasília (UnB) based on the textuality factors proposed by Beaugrande and Dressler (1981) and by Koch (2021) and in the definitions and guidelines contained in the "Manual de Redação da Presidência da República" (2018) and in the "Normas para padronização de documentos da UnB" (2011). By examining the written practice of official letters, we seek to assess whether the referred manuals contemplate textuality factors in a functional perspective of this discursive genre in order to contribute to the expansion of metageneric competence. In the methodological scope, official letters written by UnB servers available in the Electronic Information System (SEI) as public were selected, as well as interviews with the professionals responsible for this writing. In the analytical field, it appears that the referred manuals focus on the formal properties of the genre and that the written productions also reflect this orientation by giving little visibility to the functional attributes of the official letter. As a result of the research, it is intended to contribute to a more scientific and less normative understanding of the official letter, in view of its recurrent use in the professional field.
