Signs of the times: study on time and aspect in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras)

The categories of tense and aspect in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) are the object of study of this research, that aims to answer the following question: which morphosyntactic and semantic properties of the categories of tense and aspect are relevant, grammatically and cognitively, for a contrastive analysis of these categories in Portuguese and Libras? Based on the theoretical proposals of Generative Grammar and Cognitive Linguistics, the categories time and aspects are presented as cognitive categories, expressed morphosyntactically in natural languages.
