SUMMARY:

The academic trajectory of women reveals a dynamic of constant struggle for rights and against genderbased violence. Male hegemony and the structure of universities create an environment that favors the marginalization of women, historically restricting access, permanence, and recognition. Moreover, the centralization of universities and graduate programs in the major urban centers of the country imposes a geographical barrier that makes migration almost necessary for access to knowledge, especially for women from the Northeast. In light of this scenario, the study aimed to understand the academic trajectory of Northeastern women scientists in graduate programs in Psychology. To achieve this, a qualitative approach of a descriptive nature was adopted, using the Oral History methodology, with a focus on thematic oral history. Information was obtained through nine interviews with female researchers, one from each state in the Northeast. The analysis was carried out from the perspective of Depth Hermeneutics and structured into two articles. Study 1 sought to identify the particularities that led to interregional migration for Northeastern graduate students in Psychology and to analyze the formative process experienced in graduate school from the perspective of Northeastern migrants. This study revealed that the main reasons for migration include the pursuit of a strong theoretical education, the opportunity to obtain scholarships, and the quality of graduate programs. Additionally, the study observed the presence of xenophobic discourses within institutions. Study 2 aimed to reveal the experience of Northeastern women scientists who migrated within Academia, focusing on the interactions between gender, migration, and graduate studies. The life narratives of the participants reveal symbolic and practical barriers that hinder women's recognition and professional advancement, highlighting the impact of patriarchy and the intensification of these barriers due to the distance from support networks. Motherhood exacerbates inequality due to the lack of institutional support. In summary, the studies demonstrate that the trajectory of Northeastern women scientists who migrate for graduate studies is marked by motivations such as the pursuit of academic and professional advancement, but also faces challenges like xenophobia, gender barriers, and a lack of support for motherhood. Thus, the need for educational policies that seek scientific equity among Brazil's regions is emphasized, as well as intersectional affirmative policies aimed at strengthening Northeastern women in graduate Psychology programs. The study suggests the necessity of intersectional institutional policies, such as extended leave and flexible hours for mothers and fathers, to promote the democratization of education.
