SUMMARY:

The genus Cyphomyia includes approximately 86 species distributed worldwide, with about 32 of these recorded in Brazil. Despite its diversity, the biology and morphology of the immature stages of Cyphomyia is still poorly documented, with only 10 species having known larvae or puparia, from which 7 are recorded from Brazil. In this study, the immature stages of 12 species of Cyphomyia Wiedemann are described, viz. Cyphomyia albitarsis, C. aurifrons, C. bicarinata, C. erecta, C. marginata, C.leucocephala, C. notabilis, C. picta, C. pilosissima, Cyphomyia sp. n., C. souzalopesi e C. wiedemanni. With new records for the puparia of Cyphomyia sp. n., the update and standardization of previously described puparia, through the use of microscopy techniques, the morphology and habits of the immature stages are described and compared. Despite the relatively preserved morphology among species, morphological characters were utilized to segregate and identify the species.
