SUMMARY:

With the occurrence of extreme weather events, there is an increase in vulnerability in rural communities, as they are generally more isolated, difficult to access, and have deficiencies in basic sanitation infrastructure services. There are different strategies external to rainwater management that make use of technologies capable of promoting the dampening of flood flows by optimizing water infiltration into the soil and retaining rainwater for later use. This work aims to analyze how the use of different rainwater management technologies can mitigate the impacts caused by flooding in rural areas and expand access to drinking water through the use of rainwater. To achieve the objectives of the work, this study will follow the following steps: definition of the rural area that will be the object of study; environmental characterization of the study area (geomorphology, pedology, geology, orientation, relief, slope, vegetation and climate); interviews with residents of the chosen rural area to identify water demands and water sources available in the rural area; determination of average rainfall in the study area using rainfall data from the nearest stations; definition of the most appropriate rainwater management technologies for the defined rural area; The estimated reduction in rainwater flow with the implementation of the most appropriate technologies in the study area.
