SUMMARY:

Botany is the science that studies plants. However, despite the importance of these photosynthetic beings for life on Earth, it is considered a monotonous area of Biology, as it is approached with excessive nomenclature and memorization, as well as the use of images that are not related to the students' daily lives and, therefore, This does not arouse due interest in the majority of Basic Education students. With the aim of making the teaching of plants more attractive, investigative and better contextualized for high school students, a roadmap for implementing an Agroforestry Garden based on the principles of Syntropic Agriculture for learning Botany was created. Agroforestry Systems (SAFs) are forms of cultivation that seek to reproduce natural ecosystems through the planting of varied species, imitating the natural processes of succession and ecological stratification, in addition to taking care to always keep the soil covered with organic matter. In this system, a garden was created in which three beds were cultivated, creating a consortium of herbs, vegetables, fruit trees and ornamental plants chosen by the students. This initiative was used to restore an unproductive and unused space, transforming it into a relevant pedagogical tool capable of enriching Botany classes. In this environment, it was possible to develop investigative activities to teach evolutionary characteristics, morphology and physiology of plants, using living examples inserted in their ecosystem. The activity took place at the Ave Branca High School Center (CEMAB) in TaguatingaDF for students in the 1st and 2nd year of New High School in the first semester of 2023. The methodology was divided into the following stages: planning, based on analysis the area and survey of needs for implementing the system; assembly, covering soil preparation, choice and planting of selected species; maintenance by monitoring plant growth and solving problems that arose throughout the observation period; and the collection and systematization of knowledge with the application of activities that were developed after the construction of the school garden. This is a qualitative research in education and the content analysis was based on Minayo. The results obtained were satisfactory, because, despite the limitations of implementing the garden, the students were motivated and interested in all stages of the project. The activities allowed them to develop various skills, as they awakened their curiosity, observation, problemsolving and decision-making abilities. Despite the physical and climate difficulties, they preferred outdoor classes, which allowed them to expose and apply their conceptual repertoire. The possibility of working with living plant structures in a contextualized way, and not just with images, makes this content more attractive, making more sense for students, because it allows the observation of physiological, morphological and ecological processes in action. Proof of this was the result obtained with the application of an evaluative questionnaire containing objective and subjective questions in which students demonstrated that they had effectively learned the formal contents of Botany in relation to High School. Even with the increasingly scarce time that subjects have in the course load of basic general training, it was possible to conclude that the garden is a very rich pedagogical tool for working on Botany content in a contextualized, multidisciplinary, attractive and dynamic way, as it contains a variety of plants, allowing you to explore their morphological and physiological diversity in a practical way, offering more engaging and meaningful learning.
