SUMMARY:

The school is the place for the construction of scientific knowledge, playing an important role in the intellectual and critical formation of society. Currently, the leading cause of death worldwide is cardiovascular diseases, where sedentary lifestyle coupled with poor dietary habits greatly contributes to worsening this pandemic situation. Through investigative Biology education, placing the student in the role of protagonist of their learning and considering their reality, it is possible to contribute to the change in habits and the establishment of healthy eating routines. This work aimed to create a didactic sequence where students were exposed to problem-solving situations, providing them the opportunity to identify the main macromolecules necessary for the construction and maintenance of living beings, especially humans. They explored the characteristics and differences between natural, minimally processed, processed, and ultra-processed foods, as well as the benefits and harms associated with each type of food. They examined the consequences of poor nutrition, the impacts of sedentary behavior on the body, and how all these factors combined can trigger inflammatory processes in the body, leading to conditions such as high blood pressure, obesity, and particularly cardiovascular diseases, the focus of this study. Through problem-solving scenarios, students also understood how ultra-processed foods are manufactured, their composition, and how daily consumption of these foods combined with lack of physical activity can compromise the proper functioning of the human body, causing cardiovascular diseases. It is expected that after engaging in these activities, the knowledge acquired through investigative Biology education will promote a critical view on healthy eating, motivating students to change their habits and empowering them to share this knowledge with their families.
