SUMMARY:

Genetics is essential for understanding heredity, and historically observable traits have triggered various social problems, such as racism and the exclusion of individuals deemed "unfit." These social issues have long relied on a pseudoscience called eugenics, which continues to implicitly influence the teaching of genetics to this day. Curricular documents foresee the teaching of genetics, considering the historical factors of social segregation within science and promoting an investigative approach. However, many times the available materials for teachers to use in their classes do not address these aspects. Thus, the development of educational resources detached from eugenics and demonstrating the true complexity of skin color inheritance is necessary. The objective of this work is to publish a scientific article about skin color inheritance and create a guiding document based on investigative teaching methods, which can support basic education teachers and enable students to develop critical thinking regarding social problems related to skin color inheritance. Data for this research will be collected through searches in existing literature available on platforms such as Google Scholar, Medline, SciELO, Portal da CAPES, among others. These data will be analyzed and used to provide teachers with materials that assist them in teaching skin color inheritance.
