SUMMARY:

In this work, we aim to analyse practical classes in Cytology as an efficient pedagogical strategy in Biology teaching. The students will have the opportunity to observe, manipulate and analyse cell samples, utilizing equipment such as microscopes, that shall contribute to the understanding of theoretical concepts and the development of scientific abilities. The nature of this study is both qualitative and quantitative. The research will be conducted with two classes of the 2nd year of High school in a public school in the city of Palmas, state of Tocantins. The participants will be evaluated before the beginning of the experiment by their responses on a structured diagnostical questionnaire. Thereafter the students will have lectures and investigative practical classes. After those classes, an evaluation structured questionnaire will be applied to the participants. The planning and organizing of pedagogical strategies will focus on teaching by inquiry methodology, which proposes to the students teaching based on the solving of problems related to the content presented. This aims that the students shall have active participation in their learning. At the end, an investigative didactic sequence will be constructed for Cytology practical classes.
