SUMMARY:

The presented project proposes the use of the theme "land use and cover and water quality" as a learning object applied in

the disciplines of Natural, Social, Human, and Language Sciences in high school. To make this approach viable, a case study was

carried out using a quantitative and qualitative approach, utilizing direct observation and structured activities to develop an

active intervention program in high school. The Capão Preto and Ipê springs and the courses of the Coqueiros stream, which

occur on the limits of an Area of Relevant Ecological Interest (ARIE) of Granja do Ipê and are close to the school unit

participating in this study, were used as spaces for investigation and study.

Despite the budgetary and structural difficulties common to Brazilian public education, this project was able to demonstrate

the possibility of redoing the pedagogical practice through the integration of dynamic teaching practices in an interdisciplinary

approach using the theme of soil use and cover and water quality.

Empowering school and local communities is a long-term process; however, the fruits of this work are already evident:

publication of the article entitled "The teaching of chemistry in the molds of the new high school: an opportunity for the study

of environmental legislation" in the Brazilian Journal of Environmental Education (v. 18, nº 1, 2023, p. 412-431) and the

product of this work that will be delivered at the end of the course.
