The use of Literature as a pedagogical support tool for the development of Geography content,
in High School, in the public network of the Federal District
High school, Brazilian literature, geography teaching.
Research project that relates contemporary Brazilian literature and Geography high school classes. The theme’s choice arises from the concern generated during teaching practice, regarding the difficulties of reading and interpreting text among students at this stage. The importance of the theme and the justification for its choice lie in the centrality that the capacities of interpretation and understanding occupy in human cognition, as well as in the potential of literature to contribute to its development. Therefore, the objective is to analyze the contribution of a contemporary Brazilian literature book to Geography teaching content in first year high school classes. The chosen book was "Becos da Memória", by the writer Maria da Conceição Evaristo, and the focus is on the geographical concept of Place and how it appears in the narrative. A parallel will also be drawn with the skills and competencies of the school curriculum. The work starts from the teaching perspective, and its final object is an elective curricular unit, a tool that helps building mediation in everyday classroom life. The research is being carried out in a School Unit of the public education network in the Federal District, and methodologically it consists of applying a questionnaire that provides a diagnosis of students' reading habits. Afterwards, the elective will be offered, in order to assess its strengths and weaknesses. The results, analyzed in light of theory, will allow us to consolidate a syllabus applicable to other fellow teachers.
