SUMMARY:

The abrupt introduction of the online teaching format, due to the pandemic (COVID-19),
offered many difficulties, both due to the lack of training of the teachers and the indiscipline of the
student. The return to face-to-face classes was accompanied by a large informational deficit and the student seems to have more difficulty concentrating, which may also be associated with traditional classes.
Provide students with opportunities for protagonism and autonomy in their educational process, through the
Science-Technology-Society (STS) approach can mitigate the problem, as it enables a reading
critique of geographic space by analyzing real themes, reflecting on the prevailing model of domination that
determines patterns and shapes that space. Scientific and technological literacy, related to
day-to-day life, will be able to give more meaning to geographic science.
The objective is to develop a methodological practice using the STS approach in the teaching of
geography as an instrument for analyzing geographic space, in order to contribute to reflection on
the relationship between technological determinism and geopolitical order in the Eastern Europe region. A
problematization of the discourse of technological determinism, may favor the understanding of the
transformations that occur in the geographic space due to advances in technology and science that,
through military and economic force, they determine power relations and the world order. O
work is based on the geographic space category according to Milton Santos (1988 and 2004) and on the postulates in STS by Dagnino (2010), Auler and Santos (2011), Benakouche (2012), converging with the
Freire's teachings (2021), thinking of the student as a being and not an object that only listens and responds
mechanically. The research will be qualitative and will use observation and the inductive method, collecting data
data through a pre-defined questionnaire, seeking to analyze the students' point of view about the
STS approach in teaching and the influence of science, technology and the discourse of determinism
technology in wars. It is expected, with the STS approach, to provide the student with a reading of the geographic space that assists in the development of fundamental skills and competencies for the analysis of interactions between Science-Technology-Society and awaken interest in geographic science, considering proposing overcoming the discourse of technological determinism.
