I LOVE VIOLIN: A PEDAGOGICAL PROPOSAL FOR INITIATION TO THE INSTRUMENT FOR CHILDREN FROM 10 TO 12 YEARS OLD
Violin Pedagogy. Initiation to the violin. Pedagogical Proposal. Milanov Method. Suzuki method.
Teaching and learning the violin involves a set of knowledge, procedures, and skills that have a pedagogical dimension with specific characteristics. In this sense, this article presents a pedagogical proposal for initiation to violin with ten and twelve years old students. The Milanov and Suzuki didact principles are the foundation of it. Specifically, it aims to define pedagogical-musical principles, describe the content and skills suitable for beginners and organize them according to directions, pedagogical strategies, and musical repertoire. The pedagogical proposal was applied in the course Musicalização Infantil of the School of Music of Brasília, using arrangements for melodies of the popular songbook, musical preferences of the children, Brazilian popular music, songs of commemorative dates and compositions of the teacher-author. They highlight technical skills of instrumental performance, expressive character, musical knowledge, and guidelines for appreciation activities and musical composition. The methodology for developing the proposal consisted of selecting a musical repertoire, analyzing it, and adapting it to the skills and knowledge to be developed; elaborating arrangements and musical compositions; planning and creating violin lessons; registering and reflecting on the tasks in a field diary. The results present the effectiveness of the pedagogical proposal. Children quickly and easily developed skills on the instrument, generally indicated for more advanced levels of violin teaching and learning. Furthermore, the repertoire familiar to children is motivating, allowing confidence in instrumental performance. The composition activities demonstrated that this skill is relevant in the initiation to the instrument and makes it possible to evaluate learning.
