SUMMARY:

This professional master’s research studied the musical practices of preschool teachers in early childhood education. The preschool teacher is the professional who stays all or most of the time with the children at school or kindergarten. Thus, the teachers are the participants of this research. This study intends to discuss the potentialities and challenges of musical practices proposed by kindergarten teachers in the context of public schools in Brasília, Federal District. Therefore, I will aim to describe the musical and pedagogical-musical training of preschool teachers; to know the musical practices proposed by them in the school context; to understand the meanings that teachers attribute to their musical practices; to understand how they justify these musical practices in their planning and their teaching practice. The methodological design for data collection and responding to these objectives was a partially structured interview, direct and participant observation of the teachers' musical practices, and analysis of the pedagogical planning document elaborated by them. By investigating musical practices, I expect that this research can contribute to the training of teachers in early childhood education and elementary school, and to consider about teaching professionality in early childhood education.
