SUMMARY:

School parties are spaces for celebration, games and the creation of discourses and meanings. We place these parties as intrinsic to school culture. The goal of the research is to investigate the characteristics of the school parties of Children's Day and Teacher's Day in the Federal District published in the Correio Braziliense newspaper between 1960 and 1971 from the perspective of school culture. The surveyed sources reveal that Children's Day was widely celebrated, through a week that preceded it and the day dedicated to it itself. We have four specific objectives: to analyze what were the elements of the festivities of the Children's Week and which children these parties wanted to celebrate; to inquire what were the elements of the festivities of the Day specifically dedicated to Children and which children these festivities wanted to celebrate; to outline what were the characteristics of the Teacher's Day festivity and which teachers these celebrations wanted to exalt and present, as a technical product of this research, a mini-course on the history of the October festivities in schools in the Federal District. In achieving the objectives, we followed the following path: the first chapter is about Children's Week; the second is about Children's Day and the third is about Teacher's Day. Finally, the fourth chapter will present the technical product resulting from this investigation. We conclude that the Children's Week was composed of programs with Catholic rites, educational practices of an artistic, instructional and welfare nature; body education, health care, accountability to society; and had distribution of food and gifts. The childhood highlighted in the Week was composed of children who have fun, are cultured, Catholic, disciplined, athletic, healthy, clean, independent, artists and well dressed. Thus, there is the standardization of childhood in Brasilia. Children's Day was formed by events similar to Children's Week, since the former was intrinsic to the latter. On the Day, we highlight the school trip that culminated in the children's meeting with President Juscelino Kubitschek. Children's Day was prominent in society, opportunely used by the government to advertise public education. As for exalted childhood, the Day has the same ideal permeated by the Week, but with the additional mention of abandoned children, who are cared for in foster homes. Teacher's Day was commonly used for tributes. Rites similar to those performed on Children's Week and Day were also part of the celebrations. At times, the occasion of this commemoration was used for actions with political purposes, to denounce problems and neglect, to vilify the image of the class, promote improvements and public services and to propose benefits to teachers. Teachers were idealized in the figure of a woman, who made sacrifices, were competent, authoritarian, heroes, had a mission, being responsible for the future of the nation and for the propagation of nationalist ideals. At times, they were seen as undisciplined, overworked and unrecognized.
