SUMMARY:

The study of the drivers’ speeds is common theme in scientific studies, as well as the consequences of high speeds. However, there are few studies that correlate the behavior of drivers with the road environment. This study proposes monitoring drivers who travel on the highways that surround the Federal District (DF), Brazil, and on the roads within the DF, by using OCR radars, to verify whether drivers who are traveling at high speeds on highways with fast-flow also do so on low-flow roads, and vice versa. The results showed that there is a dependence between the drivers’ speeds and the road environment, in addition to the kangaroo jump effect, where the drivers accelerate after passing through a speed radar and brake when approaching another radar.
