SUMMARY:

The present work proposes a simulation model to determine fuel consumption (or energy) and CO2 emissions, with low computational processing demand, based on numerical and experimental data, to be used in transportation planning studies.

For the methodological development of the work, steps were planned that included, first, the characterization of vehicular transport routes in Brasilia. Fuel consumption, energy, and CO2 emissions were measured second by second on these routes using an internal combustion engine (IC), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and battery-powered electric vehicle (BEV). The driving cycles under real conditions were compared to the FTP-75 to verify the differences between the FTP-75 cycle and the cycles under real conditions, determining the influence of the cycles on the calculations of inventory of fuel consumption (or energy) and CO2 emissions. and the average number of passengers per vehicle on those same routes. Vehicle occupancy served to calibrate the relationship between the number of trips at peak time, published in the PDTU studies, and the number of vehicles also at peak hour. The trips of the CI, HEV and BEV vehicles on the routes were numerically simulated with the MATLAB/Simulink performing the driving cycles in real conditions of the routes. These simulations were carried out aiming at the development of the proposed algorithm to calculate CO2 emissions and fuel consumption (or energy) to be used in transport planning studies with travel demands as inputs.

The numerical model developed used the correlation curves of consumption and CO2 emissions, depending on the instantaneous velocities, together with the use of the histograms of the speeds, having the following input variables: Number of trips (Origin Matrix / destination), route distance (Km), Average vehicle occupancy, % ethanol vehicles in the fleet, % of Hybrid vehicles in the fleet and % of electric vehicles.

The preliminary results of the model were tested on the Southern route. Thus, with data from the Origin / Destination matrix, the number of trips from the region (Gama, Entorno Sul and Santa Maria) was used using the lines of travel wish present in the PDTU-DF. For this analysis, indicator 1.3 was adopted for average occupation at peak hours. The percentage of ethanol was defined in 10%, according to the ANP data, of the average use of ethanol in the Federal District. Under these conditions, the results indicated an emission of 45 tons of CO2 for peak hour.
