TITLE:

COMPONENTS FOR CLASSIFICATION OF INTELLIGENT ROAD CORRIDORS - CRIs IN BRAZIL

KEY WORDS:
Intelligent Road Corridor; Road components; Classification system; Highway classification

PAGES: 91
BIG AREA: Engenharias
AREA: Engenharia de Transportes
SUMMARY:

In intelligent transportation, the major hurdle is to achieve an efficient transportation system
for people and goods. However, the efficient operation of intelligent transportation derives
from a series of processes related to vehicles, pedestrians, infrastructure, and technological
devices that can communicate with each other. The advantages and benefits derived from
automobile technologies would not be possible without a quality and intelligent
infrastructure. In this sense, the need arises to implement an intelligent infrastructure capable
of receiving the VAs and address their incorporation into the transportation system. This
dissertation seeks to identify the components that characterize an intelligent highway and
classify them according to their degree of importance, in the view of specialists for
classification of highways or stretches of highway in the Brazilian reality. The research was
based on the five main methodologies for classifying intelligent highways (road infrastructure
support levels for automated driving; smart road classification; classification of readiness of
European highways for adopting connected, automated and electric vehicles; connected
roadway classification system and road infrastructure ready for mixed vehicles traffic flows)
and other documents in the literature and used the experts' framework not only from an
overview of their opinions, but also from the point of view of several authors grouped into
groups to present a framework that can be worked on according to different specific segments
to identify and classify the smart road corridor - CRIS in the Brazilian context. The most
important components in the general view of the experts in order were connectivity, safety,
physical infrastructure, digital infrastructure, vehicle automation and user. From these
components, the need arises to discuss what would be the path to be followed to start building
the elements that would compose an intelligent road corridor - CRIS in Brazil.
