SUMMARY:

This work developed a numerical simulation model of the growth of the fleet of individual transport vehicles, considering vehicles with internal combustion engine, hybrid and electric, to calculate the impacts on energy consumption and liquid CO2 emissions for the next three decades.

The central model of the thesis was divided into submodels, being a submodel of fleet growth, based on the growth of GDP and Population of the Federal District, as well as a submodel for determining CO2 emissions from the Brazilian electric matrix applied to the Region of the Federal District. For the calculation of total vehicle emissions, a third submodel of inventory of energy consumption and CO2 emissions of the Federal District fleet was developed. The life cycle, production and transport phases were taken into account in the model. This method was developed as a tool to be used to support decision-making by planners and managers of the public and private sector in the search for sustainability, in order to be replicated in any city or country, as well as for fleets of electric cargo vehicles or passengers.

Three scenarios were simulated: Worst-Case Scenario, Optimistic Scenario, and Excessively Optimistic Scenario.

The application of the vehicle ownership correlation function estimated a value of 705 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants by the year 2050. Consequently, by 2050 the fleet of VE's would be 352 or 705 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants for the proposed scenarios, respectively. CO2 emissions have been calculated over the next 3 decades based on these scenarios.
