BIG AREA: Engenharias

SUMMARY:

Urban mobility in cities presents several options for displacement, however, the choice of users regarding the use of transport modes does not work in a balanced way. This study aimed to analyze the perceptions of men and women about their daily commutes. According to the literature, aspects related to security, household composition and urban infrastructure are interpreted differently depending on the individual's gender. With the intention of understanding such differences, the present study combines data from the literature with the perception of urban mobility by gender based on comments made on the social network Twitter and research carried out in Brasília, Brazil, based on the application of a questionnaire. Among the results obtained with the analysis of the social network, it is observed that women perceive transport in a broader way, giving a greater value judgment to details, while men are more interested in the financial issue. It was also noted that the female public has a greater affinity with public transport and active mobility, while men show greater appreciation for the use of private cars, and that they suffer a higher incidence of cases of harassment, robberies and robberies. Complementarily, the results of the questionnaire made it possible to determine that men and women experience some aspects of urban mobility differently. The results were analyzed using the T Test and show that family composition, the perception of safety and the evaluation of urban infrastructure influence the choice of mode of travel or the judgment of the quality and efficiency of the mode, depending on the gender of the family. person. Given the aforementioned results, it can be seen that the current conditions of urban mobility contribute to the exclusion of women from public spaces and favoring female unemployment, demonstrating the social difference between men and women.
