SUMMARY:

This work aims to experimentally evaluate the behavior of deep beams with geometric discontinuities, which have diamond-shaped notches and holes, not aligned and not geometrically symmetrical, in order to cause discontinuity in the ties and interrupt the formation of compression struts and strengthened to flexure and flexure/shear with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP), using the NSM-EBR hybrid technique. This strengthening technique consists of gluing and inserting laminates into openings made in the concrete cover layer, without reaching the existing reinforcement to avoid further damage to the structure, subsequently, FRP blankets are glued on the surface with grooves (external FRP application). The study also included the modification of the anchorage system of the reference wall beams, aiming to investigate new behaviors in structures with complex geometries and non-linearities. The variables considered in the study were the presence or absence of reinforcement in the web, the geometry of the wall beams, the presence or absence of anchorage in the bending reinforcement above the notch, the presence or absence of strengthening. Experimentally, the results obtained showed that the applied technique is efficient, resulting in an increase in the final load capacity of the strengthened beams in relation to the reference beams (Series 1). This increase was substantially more significant for beams with an opening, without reinforcement in the web and flexural/shear reinforced, with an average increase of about 182.75%. The average increase for beams with one opening, with web reinforcement and flexural reinforcement was 47.79%. For beams with two openings and without web reinforcement, the average increase was 36.14%, while for beams with two openings and with web reinforcement it was 30.81%.
