KEY WORDS:

water conservation, rainwater harvesting, deep uncertainties, urban water supply system, public policy.

PAGES: 107
BIG AREA: Engenharias
AREA: Engenharia Sanitária
SUMMARY:

Ensuring urban supply is a challenge for water resources management and to help its universalization, water conservation practices dissemination is increasingly sought, among which the Rainwater Harvesting Systems (RWHS) stand out. Despite the advantages presented by this technique, there is a large variation in the water savings potential due to the dependence of several parameters (rainfall, economic and social aspects) that present a high unpredictability degree. Such uncertainties must be incorporated in the evaluation of the systems, however uncertainties in social and economic aspects, denominated as deep uncertainties, do not have probability functions that represent them or even consensus on their influence in the performance of the systems. Thus, this research seeks to evaluate the implementation of RWHS in municipalities of the state of Goiás, considering the influence of deep uncertainties. For this, an analysis of the performance of RWHS in cities of the state (Rio Verde, Ipameri and Formosa) will be carried out, evaluating the impacts for users and for the sanitation company through the calculation of technical and economic indicators. With the analysis of a wide range of states of the world the assessment will incorporate climatic and deep uncertainties (water tariff, discount rate, operating costs, total expenditure on supply services and amount of savings). Regarding users, it was found that the RWHS met the criteria established for the indicators in 50.01%, 46.19% and 38.01% of the scenarios for Rio Verde, Ipameri and Formosa, respectively. Tariff and discount rate variability influence on RWHS performance confirms the need to incorporate these uncertainties in systems assessment. It is expected that with the analysis of impacts on sanitation companies, recommendations can be established for a public policy to encourage RWHS implementation at urban level in order to benefit users and sanitation companies.
