SUMMARY:

This thesis has as research subjects the Altar of the Child God and the Festival of Our Lady of Deliverance, sacred manifestations that have been taking place for several decades in Jataí, a rural community in the municipality of Canápolis (BA), in the Corrente River Basin Identity Territory, West Bahia. The interest in researching these manifestations arose from an ethnographic study on the traditional religious phenomena of the territory, carried out between 2015 and 2017. In 2020, I entered the doctorate with the aim of understanding how these extra-daily manifestations dialogued with the performing arts, based on an ethnocenological approach. I wanted to understand how they resisted and have resisted the violent transformations in the region, which has become an agricultural frontier producing commodities in the country. Ethnocenology, a transdisciplinary ethnoscience focused on performing arts and spectacular practices, constitutes the theoretical-methodological corpus of research on these traditions, which transgress the routine of rural daily life with sound and visual aesthetics, bringing together people from various communities to celebrate the poíesis of faith, being-together in celebration and with the sacred.
