SUMMARY:

INTRODUCTION: Since 2013, obesity is considered a disease. Even though it has a recent classification this doesn’t mean it is a new condition and it has devastating consequences. According to CDC, obesity´s prevalence rose form 30.5% to 42.4% from 1999/2000 to 2017/2018. In this period, severe obesity prevalence jumped from 4.7% to 9.2%. In Brazil, according to 2019 National Health Research, from Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE) , one in four people above 18 years old was obese, a total of 41 million people. Sedentary lifestyle, genetic factors and an excessive carbohydrates and fat consumption are a few of the factors for been obese and obesity contributes to developing or worsening other diseases. Bariatric surgery has shown great results not only to weight loss but to changing comorbidities like hypertension, dyslipidemia and sleep apnea.
OBJECTIVES: Verify which variables are associated with weght loss, changing in comorbidities and quality of life of men and women after Roux en Y gastric bypass.
METHOD: This is a transversal study with a coort composed of men and women undergoing Roux en Y gastric bypass surgery for at least 2 years. Data will be collected from patient chart and then a quality of life questionary will be applied.
PARCIAL RESULTS: From 836 pacientes that underwent roux em y gastric bypass in a private clinic between 2013 to 2019, 663 were women and 173 were men. Inicial data was avaluated considering follow up time (more than 2 years), so 110 women charts were selected (from 2013 to 2015) and 63 men charts (from 2013 to 2019). Until this moment, data was extracted from 57 women and 10 men charts.
