SUMMARY:

Abstract: INTRODUCTION: The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically affected health
professionals, both due to the acute infection and long-term sequelae, as well as the
mental illness arising from a work environment with greatly increased care demand and
the relative limitation of available resources for meet this demand. OBJECTIVES: To
assess psychosocial risk factors for absence from work among health professionals, due
to causes not directly related to SARS-CoV-2 infection in Brazil. METHOD: A
prospective cohort study with a sample formed by health professionals and
professionals who support the health activities of the EBSERH network. Inclusion
criteria: be a professional in the EBSERH network and not be away from work at the
time of participation in the research in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Individuals were recruited from August to November 2020 through an email containing
a questionnaire, composed of data for sample characterization (age, gender, race,
professional category, presence of chronic diseases, presence of risk factors for severe
cases of COVID-19), in addition to 5 scales (DASS21, PHQ9, BRCS, PPE availability
scale and work autonomy scale) and Free and Informed Consent Form. According to the
participants' responses, exposure and control groups were formed, so that the exposed
are those individuals who most deviate from normality in their responses. Data
regarding possible absenteeism at work will be collected through the Occupational
Health and Safety Service of the EBSERH network (SOST-ESBERH), considering the
period of 12 weeks after the inclusion of the participants in the work. PARTIAL

RESULTS: Psychosocial predictors of mental illness, low resilience, younger age,
perceived low availability of PPE in the workplace, and perceived low autonomy at
work are implicated in higher levels of anxiety, depression, and stress-related symptoms
in workers of the EBSERH network.
