TITLE:

Study of the molecular structure and interference in drug response failure of Leishmania L. amazonensis and Leishmania v. braziliensis using scanning microscopy, transmission microscopy and atomic force microscopy

KEY WORDS:

L. amazonensis, L. braziliensis, eletronic microscopy, drugs resistance leishmania, cutaneous diffuse leishmaniasis

PAGES: 38
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Enfermagem
SUMMARY:

According to the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization (PAHO, 2023) leishmaniasis is among the 10 largest neglected tropical diseases with more than 12 million people infected in the world. It happens in all the cities and all the states of Brazil, and recorded, on average, about 21,000 cases/year. The available treatment through parenteral drugs that produce toxicity may decrease therapeutic efficacy. In addition, molecular and structural aspects of Leishmania are implicated in the pathogenesis and therapeutic resistance (PONTE-SUCRE et al, 2017). Three-dimensional electron microscopy, mainly, the atomic force microscope (AFM), provides surface topographic images with nanometer-scale resolution of the cell structure and its molecular biological complexes. (Gluenz et al 2015). This study will use high-resolution electron microscopy to analyze ultrastructural aspects of resistant strains of Leishmania amazonensis and Leishmania braziliensis as a reason for non-responsiveness to drugs
