SUMMARY:
The research conducted in this dissertation deals with the correlation between sensoriality, feelings and artistic expressions inserted in the urban spaces of the Federal District - assimilated through the lens of design and mediated by the interpretation of the imaginaries composed by the artists who took part in this research.
The proposed reflection refers to the role of artistic and cultural manifestations in everyday urban spaces as a potentializing factor for awakening ideas and proposing questions to the individuals who inhabit the city.
However, I also provide a critique of the individual's dialogical capacity with the spaces they inhabit, by arguing that an aesthetic awareness — of feeling — makes us more capable of understanding the needs of space in order to propose transformative mediation actions in these spaces.
The scrutiny takes place precisely by correlating the act of feeling with the concepts of imaginary, aesthetics and utopia, within the territory of the Federal District. The investigations were carried out with this scope in mind.
The aim is — with the participation of artists from the Federal District — to map the territory through their sensory and sentimental imaginaries, in order to envision artistic interventions that affect the daily lives of citizens. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were used to verify these investigations.
The final stage of the research is the Artistic-Cultural Utopian Cartography: in which the sensory-sentimental imaginaries related to the spaces of the Federal District — presented in the interviews — underpin the propositions and intertwine with the intervention proposals formulated by the artists investigated.
The result is a vast documentation that represents the artists' perception and activity, and their respective involvement with the territory, specifically in regards to the artistic nuance.
