SUMMARY:

Obstructive arterial diseases can alter the sympatho-vagal balance of the autonomic nervous system, increasing the risk of cardiac arrhythmias. One of the current instruments for assessing the integrity of the autonomic nervous system at the cardiovascular level is the variability of heart rate and blood pressure. Guiding question: “Can vascular obstructive processes interfere, depending on the site of obstruction, in the variability of heart rate and blood pressure in hypertensive individuals?” Hypothesis: evidence points to the possibility that arterial obstructive processes may induce dysautonomia in hypertensive and atherosclerotic individuals, consequently affecting heart rate and blood pressure variability. General objective: “to assess whether arterial obstructive processes in hypertensive patients may interfere, depending on the location of the obstruction, in the variability of heart rate and blood pressure in hypertensive individuals”. Justification: The increase in the prevalence and incidence of cardiovascular diseases indicates the need for intervention projects that minimize the risks of ischemic disorders. Method: this is a case-control study to be carried out at the Faculty of Ceilândia of the University of Brasília and at the Hospital of the University of Brasília. One hundred and four patients will be investigated through structured interviews. The technical procedures regarding the patient will be the measurement of blood pressure, measurement of waist circumference and height, heart rate variability and blood pressure at rest and during the six-minute walk test, and assessment of body weight. Ethically, Resolutions 466 (2012) and 510 (2016) will be considered.
