AREA: Multidisciplinar
SUMMARY:

Introduction: This is the CEIS Project – Home, Exercise, Elderly and Health. Episodes of falls are frequent events in elderly people with multifactorial causes, representing a serious problem related to public health. Several physical exercise interventions have demonstrated beneficial effects in reducing the rate of falls in the elderly, such as the Otago Exercise Program (OEP). However, interventions have not yet been tested regarding the use of applications to promote physical exercise in the elderly, aiming to improve balance and FM, and consequently, prevent falls. Objectives: Develop and evaluate a mobile application for performing home exercises among the elderly. Materials and methods: This is a study carried out in two stages: a technological production of the prototyping type to build the mobile application with instructional content prepared in the form of demonstrative videos based on the Otago Protocol of home exercises. The model for building the application includes four phases: analysis; design/development; implementation (pilot test with evaluation of usability and applicability with the System Usabitility Scale and Technology Acceptance Model) and evaluation; The second stage will be an experimental study of the blind randomized controlled clinical trial type, to evaluate the effect of the application. It will be carried out with 50 elderly people between 60 and 80 years old registered and monitored who meet the inclusion criteria at the Geriatrics and Gerontology Outpatient Clinic of the Taguatinga Polyclinic (GSAS 3), Southwest region of the Federal District. The elderly will be allocated into an Intervention Group (IG) and a Control Group (CG), with the IG carrying out the Otago Protocol with the support of the application and receiving weekly telephone monitoring, and the CG carrying out the Otago Protocol only with conventional guidance. The intervention consists of home exercises for 12 weeks, with each month an evolution of the exercises. The elderly in both groups will be evaluated, before and after the intervention, regarding anthropometry, body composition, blood pressure, balance, risk of falls, fear of falling, muscle strength and lower limb performance, quality of life, depression, parameters biochemical and inflammatory. Expected results: it is expected that the incentive to study will improve and improve health education aimed at the elderly and to promote the work of health professionals, potentially influencing the organization of the health service, improving communication, improving quality of life of the elderly, reduce the incidence of preventable complications through physical exercise, which consequently reflects in the reduction of costs in medium and high complexity.
