SUMMARY:

introduction: The Grand Challenges Brazil strategy, signed between the Ministry of Health and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, sought to finance research that had applicability to improve public health. However, this applicability is related to the ability to knowledge translation, which is not just about transferring information, but requires multifaceted interactions between those who generate knowledge and its potential users. These diverse processes are directly influenced by local structures, history and culture. The scarcity of research that evaluates the promotion of research by the Department of Science and Technology (DECIT) of the Ministry of Health, combined with the absence of studies that have evaluated this strategy in particular, justify the present study, which seeks to contribute to bringing management and academia closer together. Objective: To evaluate the knowledge translation processes and its impacts of research financed within the scope of Grand Challenges Brazil in the period from 2011 to 2020. Methodology: This involves analyzing the effects of an intervention, using the case study as a methodological strategy with overlapping levels of analysis and a qualitative research approach. A triangulation of methods will be used, which includes consultation of documents and semi-structured interviews, to evaluate how the scientific knowledge translation from research co-financed by DECIT and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation occurred within the scope of Grand Challenges Brazil. Expected results: It is expected that carrying out this study will make it possible to characterize the Grand Challenges Brazil strategy and identify how the knowledge translation occurred in funded research, and than, based on concrete experiences, it will be possible to make recommendations to contribute to the use of evidence for decision making.
