SUMMARY:

Introduction: Parkinson’s disease is a chronic, progressive and neurodegenerative disease that shows signs of resting, postural and kinetic tremor, reduced manual dexterity and cognitive deficits. Given the above, we raise the hypothesis that tremor impacts on the manual dexterity of the upper limbs along with cognitive decline, and tremor is an indicator that directly impacts the activities of daily life affecting the quality of life. Aim: Describe and identify the possible relationships between tremor, upper limb function, cognition and quality of life in people with Parkinson´s disease. Methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. A sample of 50 to 99 people diagnosed with PD on stable treatment with Levodopa, classified in stages I to III of the Hoehn & Yahr classification, aged between 40 and 85 years, with classic Parkinsonian tremor type 1, will be recruited according to the consensus statement of the Movement Disorders Society, with normal or corrected visual and auditory acuities and with minimum education of 4 years of formal study. The tremor will be assessed with the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) parts II and III and the Study my tremor app. Manual dexterity will be assessed with the Nine hole Peg test and the Box and block test. For cognition we will use the List of REY and the Trail making test parts A and B and quality of life we will use the PDQ 39.Preliminary results: At least moderate correlations were found between resting tremor, postural tremor and kinetic tremor with manual dexterity, cognition and quality of life.
