SUMMARY:

The assessment of muscle strength is of fundamental importance for physiotherapeutic care. Therefore, it is necessary to standardize the methodology of the instrument and the evaluator, providing better control of the variables, providing greater reliability. Studies using the hand-held dynamometer, aiming at the assessment of cervical strength, are recent and many are not compatible with clinical environments. Objectives: The objective of the present study will be to determine the reliability of the portable E-lastic® traction dynamometer in measuring the strength of cervical movements. Methods: Participants will be recruited through an electronic invitation letter. The sample will consist of healthy volunteers of both sexes, between 18 and 55 years of age. Data collection will be carried out at the Human Functional Performance Laboratory at the Faculty of Ceilândia – FCE/UnB. Participants will attend the laboratory in 2 meetings to assess the strength of the cervical muscles. Subjects will be positioned in a chair with trunk fixators in order to stabilize. A manual traction dynamometer will be used to quantify cervical muscle strength. Expected results: The expectation is that the present study will provide, after collection, data that allow the use of the E-lastic® manual traction dynamometer in clinical practice, at a preventive and rehabilitation level.
