SUMMARY:

Skeletal muscle is one of the most dynamic tissues of the human body. Among many adaptations, skeletal muscle plasticity may be related to its extensive structural and metabolic remodeling. However, there are some gaps in the literature regarding the skeletal muscle response to a tendon injury. Objective: To evaluate the effects of partial injury of the calcaneal tendon (CT) on the remodeling and plasticity of the gastrocnemius muscle (GM) after partial calcaneal tendon injury using a rat model. Methodology: Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: control group (C; animals that were not exposed to partial CT injury) and harvested at different time points post-CT injury (3, 14, 28 and 55 days) for gene expression, zymography, and morphology. Expected Results: Understand the main signaling pathways of muscle synthesis and degradation the main genes involved in the extracellular matrix components and remodeling process. It will help comprehend its physiological relevance and potential clinical implications after tendon injury.
