KEY WORDS:

PAGES: 74
BIG AREA: Ciências da Saúde
AREA: Fisioterapia e Terapia Ocupacional
SUMMARY:

Paralympic sport is characterized by the search for the maximum performance of athletes, that is, the best performance in sports practiced by people who have some type of disability, which are recognized by the International Paralympic Committee. Paralympic sport is also considered a profession for the people who practice it. Some modalities allow the use of equipment that make it possible to practice sports and, these equipments, many times, can contribute to the improvement of performance or to the safety of parathletes. Objective: To present the effects of low-cost Assistive Technology on the performance of parathletes. Method: Randomized experimental study, 24 professional athletes from Parabadminton, Bocce, Wheelchair Rugby, Wheelchair Tennis and Archery. An assistive technology user characterization questionnaire and standardized instruments will be applied, such as the Assistive Technology Assessment - predisposition to use (ATDPA-BR), the Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with Assistive Technology (QUEST 2.0) and the sociodemographic questionnaire of the Associação Association of Research Companies (ABEP). For the analysis, a transcription will be made to an Excel spreadsheet and this will be transferred to the Statistical Package for Social Scienses (SPSS) program. Given these factors, normality tests will be applied to identify whether the sample is parametric or non-parametric. After that, correlation tests will be used to verify the level of significance between the study variables (speed, precision, strength, psychosocial factors, satisfaction with the AT, expectations with the AT), after which a correlation will be made between the groups if and intervention. Expected results: It is expected to present the outcomes of the use of low-cost AT in professional Paralympic sport and discuss its effects in this context. It is also expected to characterize the sample, considering individual, contextual and AT factors, in addition to their satisfaction with the service provided by Occupational Therapy and with the AT device prescribed and implemented. Finally, it is expected to obtain data regarding the performance of parathletes before and after the intervention with AT, making it possible to observe whether or not there is an improvement in performance.
